Pearl Abyss’s open-world RPG takes you to the continent of Pywel, with its large-scale battles, boss duels and camp life. It is now playable on Apple Silicon Macs via Steam or Mac App Store.
Pywel: Exploration, combat and everyday life
As you guide your Greymane mercenary, you will encounter deserts, forest settlements, story chapters and optional side content. The combat mixes melee weapons with ranged tools and skill combinations to fight human enemies and giant creatures. You can upgrade your gear and appearance, while also gathering resources, cooking, fishing, hunting, and upgrading gear. You can manage your bases and place furniture with the housing and camp system. This is important because many hotfixes, including this one, target interaction bugs within these spaces.
How to get the Mac version running
Install the game via Steam (Mac) and the Mac App Store. Then, let the client update until it reads 2.0.02. Pearl Abyss requires 150GB SSD and 16GBRAM. Steam’s minimum Mac specifications require an Apple M2 Pro, M3, M4 processor and macOS 15.0.1; Intel Macs will not be supported. The For This Mac setting in Graphics selects the resolution and effects that are best for your Mac, and uses MetalFX and MetalFX scaling (and frame-interpolation, on newer macOS versions) to maintain target frame rates.
The first launch can take some time as shaders are downloaded and the language packs are compiled. The free Enhanced Update (2.00.00) includes expanded voice and subtitle languages. Select them in Options – Settings – Language and Audio. The Mac keyboard and mouse are supported, but Pearl Abyss notes that the housing placement cursor is offset when using this input setup.
