WiFi Explorer Pro 3.10.4
WiFi Explorer Pro 3.10.4 for Mac
Decide how far to listen after scanning.
Start an active scan on a Mac equipped with Wi-Fi. The networks are displayed in a table that can be sorted by SSID and BSSID. You can pin columns that you use often, change a column profile saved, or open the information element details pane. More than 850 fields may be added. The site survey is readable even when there are dozens of BSSIDs in the same hallway. When an AP is replaced, and the radios are different, you can compare two networks. Export the list to CSV, PCAP or PCAPNG or import an existing capture (.pcap or.pcapng) or CSV file from AirPort Utility or Aruba Utilities.
The most common path is to perform an active scan. The directed scan is aimed at a specific SSID. If you want to create associated-client lists, then the passive, listener or remote modes will be required. These modes can also be used when CoreWLAN hides 6GHz APs with standard power on Sonoma and newer. Remote sensors, such as WLAN Pis or OpenWrt boxes, can scan from a different room. Spectrum and Zigbee Views require extra hardware. (WiPry or Wi-Spy class analyzers are required, not the discontinued RapidConnect dongle.)
Radios, sensors and the license
macOS 13.5 is required. M1 Macs do not support passive scan. Monitor mode is available on MacBook Pro M5 Pro/Max and MacBook Air M5 running macOS Tahoe. However, rapid channel hops can be unreliable. This means that passive discovery of APs near you often fails. Version 3.10.4 allows you to skip unsupported interfaces when doing a passive scan. It also tightens up Wi-Fi 7 AKM, MLD, and cipher decoding. This is useful if you rely on 802.11be or remote sensors. The vendor’s site offers a seven-day trial, and the current license price is $129.99. However, the Mac App Store version costs $149.99 and includes Family Sharing. It may still be showing an older build while Apple processes these notes.
Wireless Diagnostics: When is it enough?
If you need only a single RSSI graph, stick with macOS Wireless Diagnostics. WiFi Explorer (non Pro) is a cheaper option for a simple scan that does not require remote sensors, spectrum hooks or color rules. You should choose Pro if you want 6 GHz/320 MHz/Wi-Fi 7 fields or custom columns.
