Logic Pro 12.3.1
Logic Pro 12.3.1 for Mac
Apple’s full-featured digital audio workstation for Mac covers recording, MIDI composition, mixing, and film scoring in one timeline-based project window.
From first take to bounced master
You open a project, choose a tempo and time signature, then build a song track by track. Audio lands on audio tracks; software instruments and external MIDI gear sit on instrument tracks. The arrange area is where you cut, move, loop, and stack regions, while the mixer below (or in a separate window) handles levels, pan, sends, and plug-ins per channel strip.
Built-in sound and mixing depth
Logic ships with a large library of loops, Drummer sessions, sampler instruments such as Alchemy, and effect plug-ins that cover EQ, dynamics, reverb, and creative processing. Channel strips mirror a hardware console: inserts, aux sends, and grouping make it practical to mix dense sessions in one project. For composers, the score editor and Chord Track tie notation back to the same regions you edit in the arrange window.
Compared with GarageBand and Ableton Live
GarageBand, included free on Mac, shares some instruments and is enough for quick demos, but it lacks Logic’s deep mixer routing, advanced MIDI tools, and professional export options. Ableton Live suits clip-based performance and electronic workflows; Logic favors linear song production, Apple-loop integration, and tight macOS audio/MIDI handling. If you already live in Live for stage sets, Logic is a better fit for traditional multitrack production and scoring on the same Mac.
App Store purchase or Creator Studio
Apple sells Logic on the Mac App Store as a one-time purchase (listed at $199.99 U.S. when Creator Studio launched) and bundles the same Mac app in Apple Creator Studio for a monthly or annual fee. One-time buyers can keep that license and install updates such as 12.3.1 through the App Store without subscribing. Apple’s footnotes list macOS 15.6 or later for the one-time Mac build, while the Creator Studio Mac build also requires Apple silicon; Session Players and several AI tools work best on Apple silicon Macs.
