Downie 4.13
Downie 4.13 for Mac
A Charlie Monroe video saver: you paste a page link, pick a rendition, and keep a local copy when the stream is allowed to leave the browser.
Drop the link, choose the size
The daily path is short. You copy a public video URL from Safari or Chrome, drop it on the Downie window (or use the browser extension), and the app lists the qualities it can see including 4K when the site offers it. You pick a file, or take audio only, or force MP4 and let it post-process. A queue holds a playlist while you keep browsing. Search inside the app can find a clip without opening a tab first. When the automatic parser misses, User-Guided Extraction is the fallback: you point at the player on the page instead of hoping a site plugin still matches. Finished files can go straight into Permute if you need a different container or a stitch.
Ventura is the new floor
This line requires macOS 13. Big Sur and Monterey stay on the last 4.12.x that still launched there. Ventura and Sonoma still run, but the vendor already marks 13 and 14 as deprecated and plans to ask for macOS 15 by the time macOS 28 ships. The same notes mention macOS 27 compatibility work. Older Macs that cannot leave Monterey keep the prior branch, not this one.
When a browser download is enough
Stay in the site’s own download button if it exists. Use yt-dlp if you want a free CLI and will maintain it yourself. Use Downie if you want a native queue, a quality picker, and Permute sitting next door. Version 4.13 is the first current-line build that will not install on macOS 11 or 12 same paste-and-save workflow, a higher OS floor.
