Boom 3D 2.2.6 for Mac
A system-wide volume booster and equalizer that puts virtual 3D surround on ordinary Mac headphones, so Spotify, YouTube, games, and local files all get the same treatment.
Install the driver, then shape the output
You install the app, approve the Boom audio driver, and leave it running. Playback from any Mac app is routed through Boom’s engine: a 3D Surround toggle, 10-band or 31-band EQ with genre presets, bass/treble intensity, and optional Headphone EQ profiles for thousands of models. A per-app mixer can mute a browser while a movie stays loud. Controlled Boost is meant to keep the extra gain from clipping cheap laptop speakers. There is also a built-in player and a radio browser with a large station list if you want playback inside the same window.
5.1 material can be spatialized onto stereo headphones, which is the point for a lot of movie and game users who will never own a real surround rig. The processing is always on once the driver is selected; turning Boom off is how you hear the Mac’s dry output again.
SoundSource, eqMac, and when to skip the sauce
Pick this if you want a loud, colored, “movie trailer” headphone sound with one slider language. SoundSource is the better mixer if you care about routing and per-app devices without a house sound. eqMac is the cheaper (or free) EQ if you only need bands. Apple’s own headphone accommodations and Spatial Audio cover a thinner slice and do not replace a 31-band system EQ.
Build 2.2.6 still lists macOS 10.14 or later and runs on Intel and Apple Silicon. After a 15-day trial (the vendor also mentions extra trial days after a Boom account login) you pay; the web store often says two Macs, while some FAQ copy mentions more devices on one account. The Mac App Store build is free with lifetime in-app purchases. The driver needs a Privacy toggle that looks like microphone access; Global Delight says it is not using the real mic. AirPlay and FaceTime can break while Boom owns the device, and other virtual cables (Soundflower-class tools) can collide with it. It is a listening enhancer, not a mix bus.
